Skeletal (bones, ligaments, tendons)
The skeletal system gives you shape, structure, and support. The skeletal system includes bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissue. Your skeleton, the body’s framework of bones, is required for movement. Your bones contain bone marrow, where blood cells are made. The skeletal system also protects your body by covering vital organs like your brain (within the skull), heart and lungs (behind the ribs), and your spinal cord (in your backbone). Bones have another vital function: storing vitamin D and your supply of minerals, like calcium.
