I’d like to give an example of how you have to do your own research concerning essential oils. Even though we want to trust the doctors we see, we have to keep in mind that there are a lot of professionals who might be working with outdated information. It’s important we work closely with our doctors to communicate what we are finding and ask WHEN the information they have was published because new discoveries are being made concerning essential oils every day. If they aren’t open to working together with you, get a new doctor who wants to.
In September we went in to the Pediatrician for my daughter’s 2yr old well visit and immunizations. We normally see one doc in the practice, but we couldn’t get on his schedule so we saw his wife. The husband doctor knows we use essential oils. At my daughter’s one year checkup he mentioned her little chest “buds” and how we didn’t need to worry about them and they would get smaller. We were talking about eo’s in the same visit (he supports our use of them) and he never said anything about lavender related to the growth of her “buds.” And fyi, they have gotten smaller. Fast forward to this visit, and the doctor scolds me for using lavender essential oil, and goes so far as to tell me that I “caused” her buds by using lavender on her (I told her it was pure, and tried to communicate). She said “it’s proven, studies have been done,” and basically shut me down. At that point I didn’t feel like she was interested in having a two-way communication and I made a mental note to never go back to her again. I also immediately sent her the link to this article via email (that I got by calling their office – which you can do for your own doc). I have yet to get a response. It’s a tough situation we are in, all trying to blaze an essential oil trail and keep all the facts straight. I look forward to the next visit where I can discuss these findings with our regular doctor and hear his take on it. I’ll post an update when I do.
