History
For centuries cassia has been an important part of traditional Chinese medicine aiding in the treatment of numerous ailments. Some as serious as tuberculosis, others as mild as constipation. It is one of the few oils mentioned in the Old Testament in the Bible famous for its warming properties.
Oil Description
Cassia, comes from the plant species, cinnamomum cassia. It is best known as the, “sister to cinnamon” spice, with many similarities. Namely, its warm and spicy flavor and numerous health properties. The 30 foot cassia tree grows in locations such as, China, Vietnam, and Indonesia. The oil is harvested from the grayish brown bark. Because of the oils potency, it is best to liberally dilute cassia with a carrier oil when applying to skin. The aroma of cassia is sharp when directly inhaled.
Cautions
Because cassia can be “hot,” caution is required. If applying to skin, dilute with a carrier oil such as coconut oil. Keep out of reach of children. Consult your physician if you are pregnant, nursing or under a doctor’s care. Do not put oils directly in your eyes (oils can drip into eyes – if this happens, flush with fractionated coconut oil, not water). Do not drip oils into the ear canal. Avoid sensitive areas.
