History
Cinnamon was a precious spice to the ancient Egyptians, who used it for embalming the dead. It may also have been used in a concoction to ward off the plague in 15th century Europe. Cinnamon has become synonymous with the winter season, and various holiday recipes.
Oil Description
Cinnamon bark oil (cinnamomum zeylanicum) comes from the tropical evergreen known as Laurus Cinnamomum. Indigenous to South Asia, cinnamon has been used in various forms, (extract, tea or spice) in Chinese and Indian medicine for centuries. Recent studies have shown that the oil’s main chemical component, cinnamic aldehyde has antiviral properties. Another component, eugenol, helps to maintain bodily health.
Cautions
Use with a carrier for sensitive skin. Keep out of reach of children. Consult your physician if you are pregnant, nursing or under a doctor’s care. Do not put oils directly in your eyes (oils can drip into eyes – if this happens, flush with fractionated coconut oil, not water). Do not drip oils into the ear canal. Avoid sensitive areas.
