History
The Douglas For tree’s name comes from famous botanist, David Douglas. However, its scientific name stems his rival, Archibald Menzies. The Douglas Fir is self-seeding and has become quite intrusive in New Zealand. This species is generally used in Christmas tree production, and is one of the most popular types of evergreens used as Christmas trees.
Oil Description
The Douglas Fir tree, Pseudotsuga menziesii, is an evergreen that originates in the North American western region. These trees are known for their elongated cones and long needles which grow in a spiraled like fashion from each branch. Douglas fir, lemon and lime essential oils all share a similar chemical component called beta-pinene. It also contains monoterpenes, generally found in other wood essential oils such as frankincense, juniper berry or cypress. A combination of these chemicals result in a citrusy, wood-like scent that is both refreshing and elevating. Some everyday products that include this essential oil are air fresheners, incense, and even perfumes.
Cautions
Use with a carrier for sensitive skin. Keep out of reach of children. Consult your physician if you are pregnant, nursing or under a doctor’s care. Do not put oils directly in your eyes (oils can drip into eyes – if this happens, flush with fractionated coconut oil, not water). Do not drip oils into the ear canal. Avoid sensitive areas.
