History

Frankincense has been highly valued for its health-giving properties for centuries. Found in various places in the ancient world, it was utilized in both Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese folk medicines. It was also a well-known for nourishing skin by the ancients who included it in many lotions and perfumes. Frankincense has been an important part of religious rituals for centuries, most especially the Christian faith. It was one of the offerings given to Christ by the wise men shortly after his birth.

Oil Description

Frankincense oil, is cultivated from the resin of trees known as Boswellia. They are indigenous to places as, Ethiopia, Somalia, India and the Arabic Peninsula. It was well-known for nourishing skin by the ancients who included it in many lotions and perfumes. Its many benefits are just as effective now as they were in ancient times, and why it is referred to as the “king of oils.” Frankincense is quite effective with anything from revitalizing skin, to promoting healthy cellular function. 

Cautions

Use with a carrier for sensitive skin. Keep out of reach of children. Consult your physician if you are pregnant, nursing or under a doctor’s care. Do not put oils directly in your eyes (oils can drip into eyes – if this happens, flush with fractionated coconut oil, not water). Do not drip oils into the ear canal. Avoid sensitive areas.

Directions for Use

  • Add 1-2 drops to your favorite moisturizer to invigorate skin and lessen appearance of blemishes.
  • Rehydrate dry hands during the cold winter months by adding 2 drops of frankincense oil to hand lotion of choice.
  • Maintain healthy cellular function: Add 1-2 drops of frankincense oil into a veggie capsule and take daily.
  • When traveling to a dry place, keep nails looking healthy by adding a drop of frankincense oil to nails. Massage nail beds and cuticles thoroughly.
  • Soothe aching feet & experience a sense of harmony by massaging oil onto soles of feet. 
  • After a long day of gardening or other outdoor activities, rub 1-2 drops of oil onto hands and feet for a calming sensation.
  • Tap 3-5 drops into 1 cup epsom salts for a soothing bath to evoke feelings of peace and renewal.
  • Diffuse 3-4 drops of frankincense oil during morning yoga routine for increased daily focus.
  • On wakeful nights, diffuse 3-4 drops of frankincense oil prior to bedtime for a calming and restful environment.
  • Open airways and breathe easier by tapping a few drops of oil onto a cloth and inhaling deeply.
  • Lessen feelings of distress by dabbing frankincense oil onto pressure points (wrists, temples, back of neck, behind ears, base of skull) as needed.
  • Create a calming & comforting environment with the “Star in the East” diffuser blend. Start with 1 drop of frankincense oil, 1 drop of sandalwood oil, and then add 2 drops of grapefruit oil.
  • To maintain healthy blood pressure levels, create a blend of 3-4 drops each of the following oils: marjoram, cassia, frankincense, helichrysum, lavender, lemon, and ylang ylang, with 25 drops of carrier oil. Apply to wrists, and back of neck. Also, massage over heart and, breast bone. Use 1-4 times daily.
