Ingredients/Chemical Components

patchouli alcohol, α-Bulnesene, α-Guaiene

Primary Benefits

  • Emotional balance
  • Skin support

History

Patchouli has a long and rich history ranging from imported silks to centuries old medicine. Chinese, Mandarin, and Japanese medicine used patchouli for its emotional and skin benefits. Because patchouli has insect repelling properties, the silk trader of the orient would ship their silk with patchouli leaves to repel moths. It became such a regular process that the scent of patchouli became associated with authenticity in the silk trade. European traders even tried to imitate the scent, however it wasn’t until 1837 that the secret packaging herb was released.

Oil Description

The patchouli plant is a bushy herb with small flowers most noted for its grounding, sweet, and camphoraceous aroma and skin benefits. It is often incorporated into skin care products because of its wonderful effect on skin health, promoting clear, smooth, and radiant skin. Historically, patchouli’s aroma has been the primary choice of scent in the linen industry, and is still to this day. Patchouli is used in many laundry products, home fragrances, candles, and even perfumes.

Cautions

Use with a carrier for sensitive skin. Keep out of reach of children. Consult your physician if you are pregnant, nursing or under a doctor’s care. Do not put oils directly in your eyes (oils can drip into eyes – if this happens, flush with fractionated coconut oil, not water). Do not drip oils into the ear canal. Avoid sensitive areas.
