History

Roman chamomile is a short plant with small white flowers similar to the daisy. The plant has been used for centuries as a flavoring agent and addition to cosmetic practices. Indigenous to Europe and Asia, roman chamomile’s popular aroma and calming properties has spread across the world. The Romans used chamomile for flavor and the emotional benefits. The plant was named after its discovery place, an ancient roman coliseum. Roman chamomile was first used in Egypt to relieve fever and for cosmetic purposes. It was a favored addition to the Norse’s hair care regiment to add shine and promote healthy hair. It became a unique beer flavor in the thirteenth century and a popular perfume during the Tudor period of Europe. Roman chamomile is still used today for many of these purposes as it is a popular tea flavoring agent and is widely used in the cosmetic industry for healthy hair and skin.
