History

Originating in asia and the pacific islands, basil’s medicinal properties have been used for thousands of years in India and Asia. In India, basil is considered a sacred plant due to its medicinal benefits. It has been a fundamental ingredient in the ancient practice of Ayurveda for centuries. Useful and precious to many ancient cultures basil acquired many different meanings. Used during the egyptian embalming process, basil became a symbol of mourning. In Greece basil was considered a royal herb. Portugal associated basil with love and statements of admiration.Today the basil leaf is most commonly used in cooking.

Oil Description

Several studies indicate that basil essential oil is effective against viral infections. Its herbal aroma provides a sense of concentration and helps lessen feelings of stress.

Cautions

Use with a carrier for sensitive skin. Keep out of reach of children. Consult your physician if you are pregnant, nursing or under a doctor’s care. Do not put oils directly in your eyes (oils can drip into eyes – if this happens, flush with fractionated coconut oil, not water). Do not drip oils into the ear canal. Avoid sensitive areas.

Directions for Use

  • Take one drop internally for soothing menstrual support.
  • Blend with bergamot, lime and/or peppermint for a refreshing aroma.
  • Use with wintergreen and carrier oil for a stress-relieving neck massage.
  • Dab on pressure points (wrists, temples, back of neck, behind ears, base of skull), bottoms of feet or over heart as needed for emotional support.
  •  Use with coconut oil directly on skin irritations. 
  • Tap 3-5 drops into 1 cup epsom salts for a soothing bath to reduce occasional tension.
  • For ear support, dab around outside of ear and lightly swipe in the concha (bowl part). Do not let oil drip down the ear canal. May need to dilute with coconut oil for children and sensitive skin. Can drip one drop on a cotton ball and face oil toward canal and put a bandaid over the ear to hold cotton ball in place for overnight support.
  • Rub on abdomen to soothe stomach cramps, constipation and bloating due to gas. Use with a carrier oil on sensitive stomachs and on children.
  • Keep gums and teeth healthy with a blended mouthwash of, basil, clove and tea tree oils
  • Add a drop of basil oil into a veggie capsule and take internally for soothing support during a menstrual cycle. 
  • Add 3 drops of marjoram, basil and lavender oils to a veggie capsule daily, to maintain a healthy blood pressure level.
