History

Native to China, petegrain’s name is actually derived from the french for “little grain.” The citrus tree produces a small bitter orange fruit. Eighteenth century Spanish missionaries spread the popularity of the fruit to Paraguay. Petitgrain has been used as perfume, added to cuisine, and incorporated in traditional medicine.

Oil Description

Petitgrain essential oil has many uses ranging from immune support, nervous system support, cleaning, and perfume. Extracted from the leaves and stem, petitgrain is one of three essential oils derived from the bitter orange tree. doTERRA sources petitgrain essential oil from Paraguay through their Co-Impact Sourcing® initiative.

Cautions

Use with a carrier for sensitive skin. Keep out of reach of children. Consult your physician if you are pregnant, nursing or under a doctor’s care. Do not put oils directly in your eyes (oils can drip into eyes – if this happens, flush with fractionated coconut oil, not water). Do not drip oils into the ear canal. Avoid sensitive areas.

Directions for Use

  • Diffuse three to four drops to promote a comforting atmosphere.
  • Add to water and ingest daily to promote immune health, digestive health, antioxidant support (one drop to four ounces).
  • Apply to wrists or hands and inhale to help relieve feelings of stress or anxiousness.
  • Combine with bergamot and lavender in a glass spray bottle and use as a linen spray to promote deep sleep.
