History

Various ancient cultures revered thyme for its wide range of healing properties. The Egyptians utilized thyme’s anti fungal benefits for their embalming practices. Greeks and Romans began burning bundles of thyme to cleanse their home and temples. In addition, they bathed in thyme for homeopathic purposes. The people of Medieval Europe placed sprigs of thyme under their pillows to ward off nightmares.

Oil Description

doTERRA’s Thyme is a mix of thymus vulgaris and thymus zygis. Thyme is a longstanding herb that thrives in warmer regions. However, it has been known to withstand many environments, even mountainous regions. It’s indigenous to areas of southern Europe, that stretch along the Mediterranean. Thyme consists of several small branches and its tiny blossoms range from blue to pink hues. Today, thyme is used frequently for seasoning cuisine, but can also be found in mouthwashes, potpourri, and even in vapor rubs. Thyme essential oil contains powerful cleansing properties with a crisp clean aroma. This herb is typically used as a natural insect repellent or as a culinary seasoning.

Cautions

Use with a carrier for sensitive skin. Keep out of reach of children. Consult your physician if you are pregnant, nursing or under a doctor’s care. Do not put oils directly in your eyes (oils can drip into eyes – if this happens, flush with fractionated coconut oil, not water). Do not drip oils into the ear canal. Avoid sensitive areas.
