History
Myrrh is a resin sourced from the Commiphora myrrha tree, found in parts of Africa and the Middle East. It has long been revered for its highly-purifying and medicinal properties. The ancients considered myrrh sacred and included it in various burial and religious ceremonies. During Bible times, Jews used myrrh in their anointing oil, while the Egyptians are known to have incorporated it in their embalming rituals. Historically, myrrh was used to help relieve maladies such as skin ulcers, leprosy, ringworm and athlete’s foot. It was first documented as being used in Chinese medicine, during the Tang Dynasty around 600 A.D. It is still used today in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda practices.
Oil Description
Myrrh essential oil yields a calming aroma that helps to promote a sense of balance in home, work, or meditative spaces. It’s therapeutic properties make it ideal for deep massages and meditation. Myrrh is still used today in mouthwashes, toothpastes, and fragrances.
Cautions
Use with a carrier for sensitive skin. Keep out of reach of children. Consult your physician if you are pregnant, nursing or under a doctor’s care. Do not put oils directly in your eyes (oils can drip into eyes – if this happens, flush with fractionated coconut oil, not water). Do not drip oils into the ear canal. Avoid sensitive areas.
